Data Breach Alert: Hacker Exposes Names and Addresses of 40,000+ Karachi Citizens

Published:

A data breach on a Karachi retail website has exposed the personal details of over 42,000 individuals. Intelligence Analyst Zaki Khalid revealed the incident on Twitter, stating that the leaked data includes full names, phone numbers, addresses, invoice details, and more.

The information is reportedly being sold on a deep web forum, with the hacker offering a sample screenshot showcasing a customer’s invoice details, including name, address, email, and phone number.

While the exact target group remains unclear, analyst Khalid suggests the data may include both customers and retailers, particularly those located in Karachi’s affluent areas.

This incident highlights the alarming frequency of data breaches in Pakistan. Last month, the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) experienced a leak that exposed sensitive information on company CEOs, including ID numbers, addresses, and emails. Notably, this breach went undetected by the head of information security, raising further concerns.

The vast amount of exposed data in the Karachi retail breach may not be directly exploitable, but it underscores the critical need for robust cybersecurity measures.
