Enterprises are choosing and implementing technologies and tools they are familiar with and that they believe will solve their organizational problems; these IT products available in market are catering all the enterprise requirements but the problem lies when the required level of understanding of business by IT professionals lack.
This happens to be the most critical factor in implementation of any IT initiative in a company; most of the enterprises are facing this problem as it results in missing their targets. If the IT person or department does not understand the business needs, then they aren’t capable of buying the appropriate management initiative which is the need of the moment.
If you go to technology and talk about the business operations, they will have no clue about it. What they can perfectly do is get you off the shelf product and perfectly deploy it.. but the real use of it, the real benefit of it, only those people are aware of who actually understand the business. This is where business technology comes in to play its part because there are specific functions related to business technology comprising of individuals who understand the business as well as technology, who understands the business and financial models and the operations also.
These professional are known as Business Analysts or System Analysts; who acts as a liaison, bridge and diplomat who balances the oftentimes incongruous supply of IT resources and demands of the business, taking an active role in the development of IT solutions.
Responsibilities of a Business analyst includes:
- Working with project stakeholders and translating their requirements to the developers as well as translating the resulting questions that the developers have to the stakeholders.
- Business analysts also have the tough task of breaking down technical and architectural complexities so that project stakeholders can easily understand any issues that crop up.
- Understanding the business process and solving the underlying problems.
- Working with project stakeholders to identify, model and then document their requirements and business domain details.
- Validating project stakeholder’s requirements and analysis models via techniques such as reviews, walkthroughs and play acting.
- Knowing how to find the answers to questions and finding alternative paths through the organization and involve the right people at the right time.
