U.S. Chargé d’Affaires (CDA) Natalie Baker joined State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) Governor Jameel Ahmad and senior leadership from Cisco Systems Pakistan at the SBP Head Office to mark the successful deployment of the central bank’s new core banking network and Software Defined Data Center. The multimillion dollar technology project, awarded to U.S. technology company Cisco, represents an important development in strengthening Pakistan’s financial infrastructure through secure and resilient digital systems. The deployment is designed to support the operational requirements of the country’s central banking environment by providing a modern network architecture capable of improving reliability, security, and flexibility for critical financial services.
The core banking network project introduces a software defined data center architecture aimed at enhancing the efficiency and protection of SBP’s technology environment. The initiative focuses on creating a secure and agile infrastructure framework that supports the continuity of banking operations and strengthens the foundation of digital financial services. As financial institutions continue adopting advanced technologies, reliable infrastructure has become increasingly important for maintaining secure transactions, managing critical data, and supporting nationwide banking activities. The collaboration between SBP and Cisco reflects the role of technology partnerships in helping financial institutions modernize their systems while maintaining operational stability during complex implementations and migration processes. Speaking at the ceremony, CDA Natalie Baker highlighted the importance of secure and trusted technology solutions in supporting modern financial systems and emphasized the growing commercial relationship between the United States and Pakistan. She stated that central bank infrastructure serves as a national asset that supports economic stability and public confidence. According to Baker, SBP’s partnership with American technology industry demonstrates a focus on technology quality, security, and long term reliability. She also noted the continued value of commercial ties between both countries and expressed support for connecting Pakistani institutions with advanced technology solutions developed by American companies.
SBP Governor Jameel Ahmad and Cisco Country General Manager Kashif Ul Haque recognized the joint efforts of engineering teams involved in completing the implementation and migration process while ensuring uninterrupted central banking operations. The successful deployment involved coordination between technical teams to transition towards the new infrastructure environment while maintaining the continuity of essential services. The project highlights the importance of collaboration between financial institutions and technology providers in delivering complex enterprise solutions that meet evolving operational requirements.
The deployment also reflects continued efforts to strengthen digital infrastructure, encourage private sector collaboration, and support secure technology adoption within Pakistan’s financial sector. The U.S. government highlighted the project as part of broader efforts to promote transparent technology partnerships and deepen trade and investment relations between the United States and Pakistan. Through the implementation of Cisco’s core banking network and Software Defined Data Center architecture, SBP has taken another step toward enhancing its technology capabilities and supporting the secure delivery of financial services across the country.
