Pakistan and Malaysia Forge Digital Partnership: Collaboration on 5G, Cybersecurity on the Horizon

Published:

Pakistan and Malaysia have taken a significant step towards bolstering their digital ties, pledging to collaborate on key areas like 5G technology, cybersecurity, and regulatory frameworks. This commitment was solidified during a high-level meeting between Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Chairman, Maj. Gen. (R) Amir Azeem Bajwa, and the Interim Chairman of Malaysia’s Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), Tan Sri Mohamad Salim bin Fateh Din.

The meeting, held at PTA headquarters, served as a platform for exchanging knowledge about both nations’ digital landscapes. Discussions focused on current initiatives and future projects, with the Malaysian delegation showcasing their impressive ICT sector growth and landmark projects like PEDi, a program focused on digital empowerment for rural communities. They also presented their innovative Single Wholesale Network model for 5G deployment.

Building upon this productive exchange, both Pakistan and Malaysia agreed to maintain open channels of communication and explore potential areas for collaboration. Specific areas of focus include 5G technology, cybersecurity expertise, and the development of robust regulatory frameworks for their telecommunication sectors.

This meeting signifies a continuation of the growing partnership between PTA and MCMC. It paves the way for a potential non-binding cooperation mechanism, fostering closer collaboration between the two regulatory bodies in the future. This collaboration has the potential to significantly enhance both nations’ digital landscapes and bridge the digital divide.
