As artificial intelligence continues to reshape industries and business operations, organisations are placing greater emphasis on governance and strategic oversight alongside technology adoption. Recognising this shift, Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), through its Rausing Executive Development Centre (REDC), has introduced the AI for the Boardroom (AIBR) executive programme to help current and future board members strengthen their understanding of AI governance. The programme is designed to address the governance gap that many organisations face as AI becomes an integral part of business transformation. While many executive programmes focus on the technical implementation of AI, AIBR is structured to equip directors, senior executives, and business leaders with the strategic frameworks, governance knowledge, and practical AI exposure required to oversee AI initiatives responsibly and effectively without requiring a technical background.
Drawing on internationally recognised best practices, the programme combines strategic thinking with hands on experience using leading AI platforms to bridge the gap between technical AI capabilities and boardroom decision making. Participants will gain practical exposure that enables them to make informed decisions regarding AI investments, organisational transformation, and risk management while strengthening their ability to oversee AI initiatives from a governance perspective. The curriculum focuses on developing strategic AI capabilities, evaluating AI opportunities through structured business frameworks, improving communication around AI strategies, and building confidence in discussing AI opportunities and limitations within boardrooms. Participants will also explore practical AI tools that help them ask more informed questions, critically evaluate proposals, and contribute effectively to discussions involving business growth, digital transformation, and responsible AI deployment. The programme further introduces AI enabled strategic decision making through practical exercises, including the use of digital twins to support business decisions by combining global best practices with local business knowledge.
The executive programme integrates several core areas that support stronger strategic leadership, including AI fundamentals for directors, AI driven business growth strategies, risk aware decision making, and future ready board practices. Learning is delivered through case discussions, peer learning sessions among experienced executives, and hands on laboratory exercises using modern AI platforms. This blended approach ensures participants develop both conceptual understanding and practical familiarity with AI technologies that can support governance and organisational leadership. The programme is intended for non technical C suite executives, independent directors, board members, chairpersons, SME owners, Group CEOs preparing for board responsibilities, and experienced CXOs across industries. It welcomes participants from sectors including banking, telecommunications, healthcare, manufacturing, agriculture, education, energy, public administration, wholesale and retail, tourism, hospitality, construction, pharmaceuticals, engineering, textiles, food and beverages, and non governmental organisations. While applicants are expected to possess significant sector expertise, the programme is specifically designed to provide structured exposure to AI tools and strategic frameworks that can strengthen board level oversight and business decision making.
LUMS has set the programme fee at PKR 160,000, with optional residential accommodation available for an additional PKR 60,000 at the Rausing Executive Centre. The programme fee includes tuition, study materials, tea, and lunch, while residential accommodation covers lodging along with breakfast and dinner during the programme period. Applications will be reviewed according to participant suitability, with admissions processed on a first come, first served basis after successful completion of the application process. Payments can be completed through the embedded LUMS online payment portal, designated United Bank Limited branches, or bank transfer. LUMS also offers a group discount under which organisations enrolling more than two executives, up to a maximum of five participants, receive a 10 percent discount on the programme fee for each additional participant after the first two. The university has also outlined substitute, transfer, refund, and programme rescheduling policies to provide participants and sponsoring organisations with flexibility while maintaining the programme’s admission and operational requirements.
