Google, the US based technology company, has officially inaugurated its local office in Pakistan, marking a new phase in its engagement with the country’s technology ecosystem. The opening ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Google representatives, including the company’s Global Affairs Vice President Wilson L. White. US Chargé d’Affaires in Pakistan Natalie Baker also attended the meeting, highlighting the importance of growing technology focused ties between Pakistan and the United States.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan has significant opportunities to build a stronger partnership with Google and expand collaboration across multiple sectors. He highlighted that Pakistan is undergoing a major digital transformation and emphasized the role of technology in improving governance, creating opportunities for young people, and supporting economic growth. The Prime Minister noted that Pakistan’s large youth population provides a strong foundation for digital development and innovation. He said that while significant efforts are already underway, additional work is required to fully utilize technology as a driver for national progress. Prime Minister Shehbaz described the inauguration of Google’s Pakistan office as an important step toward building a long term relationship between the company and the country.
Google Global Affairs Vice President Wilson L. White described the office opening as a “big milestone” for the company’s journey in Pakistan. He said Google has been investing in and remaining committed to Pakistan for more than a decade, and the establishment of a local office represents a significant point in that relationship. White appreciated Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s vision of transforming Pakistan into a $30 billion IT export hub and said Google is working with Pakistan to support this objective. He outlined three key areas where Google plans to contribute, including investment in Pakistani talent and people, investment in manufacturing and infrastructure to support hardware exports, and support for local businesses to help strengthen the digital economy.
The inauguration of Google’s Pakistan office reflects the company’s continued focus on expanding its presence in emerging technology markets and building stronger connections with local communities. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Wilson L. White formally inaugurated the office, with the Prime Minister describing the facility as a stepping stone toward a broader and long term partnership. The move comes as Pakistan continues efforts to expand its digital sector, increase IT exports, develop technology skills among its workforce, and attract global technology companies. Google’s local presence is expected to support greater engagement with Pakistani businesses, developers, and technology professionals while contributing to ongoing digital initiatives in the country. The establishment of the office also represents a deeper level of collaboration between Google and Pakistan as both sides explore opportunities in technology development, infrastructure growth, and digital innovation.
