Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police has partnered with Air University to advance research and technology integration in digital forensics, cyber security, and professional police training through a formal Memorandum of Understanding. This collaboration aims to modernize policing by leveraging AI-powered tools and cutting-edge methodologies to support crime investigation and operational efficiency. Central to the agreement is the phased development and deployment of an AI-based digital forensic software suite named “NigranX,” designed to enhance capabilities such as digital evidence analysis, surveillance, operational support, and legal compliance within KP Police operations.
The initiative envisions a comprehensive, automated, and lawful framework that strengthens decision-making processes and provides transparent policing services. The Inspector General of Police KP, Zulfiqar Hameed, highlighted that the agreement marks a significant step toward transforming the police force into a technology-driven institution. The MoU, signed by DIG IT Ejaz Ahmed for KP Police and Dr. Zonia Jaleel, Dean of NCSA at Air University, sets out a clear roadmap for collaboration across multiple phases focused on innovation and capacity building.
The first phase concentrates on research and development of the NigranX software, incorporating AI-driven modules tailored for digital forensic investigations, social media analysis, and other specialized functions. Alongside this, the introduction of a KP Police AI Assistant Suite will provide officers with tools to aid in routine policing tasks, data interpretation, and timely decision-making. Following this, the second phase will focus on upgrading the police training infrastructure with a modern Learning Management System that aligns curricula with contemporary law enforcement demands. This phase also includes organizing specialized training sessions, seminars, and certification programs at Air University to enhance professional skills.
In the third phase, KP Police and Air University plan to jointly host national and international conferences, workshops, and symposiums to promote knowledge sharing and research in digital forensics, cyber security, and emerging technologies. This initiative reflects a growing recognition of the importance of institutional collaboration in addressing complex security challenges. By combining academic expertise with frontline policing experience, the partnership seeks to elevate the overall effectiveness and transparency of law enforcement in the region. The presence of senior police officials and university representatives at the signing ceremony underscored the shared commitment to this ambitious transformation.
