Continuing the coverage from the P@SHA ICT Awards 2008, the 2008 winners are presently in Jakarta at APICTA and will be going through adjudication process for their products or services in the categories each of them won. And it is a huge deal for them to be there. No, wait – It’s a monumental deal that they are there. Why so, you ask? It’s because our companies compete in those 9 categories against products and services developed from around APAC.
I know our colleagues and team mates are busy with the last minute preparations before the judging begins tomorrow but we still wanted to take a moment to wish them luck. (You can see photographs of how large APICTA is here).
People often wonder what the big deal really is when a Pakistani IT company competes in any event and our reply is a fairly simple one: With the world advancing as fast as it is, technology helps keep pace with the growth. While math and numbers are still the “real” universal language of communication, geekspeak tends to have a terrific effect on people. If you can understand the vision that the Cisco’s and IBM’s of this world have, it doesn’t matter what passport you hold, you will make an impression for all of us. And in addition to the big picture, if we can get our companies to share their vision of the future with the rest of the world, that makes an even BIGGER impact.
Every platform, every forum, every group and every avenue our companies can get onto, they should. After all, the local Technology sector will have a critical role to play when it comes to defining Pakistan’s future.
Good luck to all the contenders!
