Telenor Pakistan has completed what it described as the world’s largest One Go migration, transferring its entire prepaid and postpaid provisioned customer base of 90 million users to a next generation Charging and Billing System designed to support modern digital services and large scale telecom operations.
The newly implemented platform is built on a cloud native architecture and hosted on a private cloud environment, offering enhanced service resilience, geo redundancy, and high scalability to meet growing demand across digital channels. Designed to support an expanding digital ecosystem, the upgraded CBS allows rapid development of next generation digital services, faster time to market, and seamless system integration through more than 100 application programming interfaces. The transformation is expected to significantly improve operational efficiency while enabling Telenor Pakistan to roll out innovative customer focused solutions across mobile, data, and digital service portfolios.
The large scale migration was executed through close coordination among cross functional teams from Telenor Pakistan, Huawei, original equipment manufacturers, and multiple technology suppliers. The collaboration spanned business operations, network technology, IT infrastructure, and service delivery to ensure a smooth and uninterrupted transition for millions of customers. Despite the complexity of moving an entire national subscriber base in a single cutover, the process was completed without service disruption, highlighting the technical precision and planning behind the project. The success also reflects the growing maturity of Pakistan’s telecom sector in executing advanced cloud based transformations at national scale.
Commenting on the milestone, Telenor Pakistan Chief Executive Officer Awais Vohra said the migration represents a major step in strengthening the company’s digital foundation and long term technology strategy. He noted that by modernizing core systems, Telenor Pakistan is creating a scalable and resilient platform capable of supporting a wide range of new digital services, responding faster to customer needs, and preparing the network for future technologies such as 5G. According to Vohra, the upgrade reinforces the company’s commitment to innovation and sustained technological development across Pakistan’s telecom landscape.
Huawei Pakistan Chief Executive Officer Ethan Sun highlighted the long standing collaboration between the two companies, stating that Huawei is proud to support Telenor Pakistan with a future ready CBS platform that improves operational performance today while preparing the operator for next generation connectivity. He emphasized that the modernized system will enable greater flexibility in launching digital offerings and managing large volumes of real time transactions, which are essential for evolving telecom business models.
The successful deployment positions Telenor Pakistan among leading global operators adopting cloud native core platforms to drive digital growth. With its upgraded charging and billing infrastructure, the company is now better equipped to support advanced digital services, enterprise solutions, and evolving customer expectations while contributing to the broader digital Pakistan vision through modern telecom capabilities.
