SpaceXAI has officially unveiled Grok 4.5, its newest artificial intelligence model and the company’s first major release since becoming a publicly traded entity several weeks ago. In an announcement published on Wednesday, the company described Grok 4.5 as a versatile workhorse built to handle a broad range of everyday artificial intelligence tasks, including coding, application development, office and administrative work, research, writing, and other knowledge based activities. The launch comes at a time when competition in the artificial intelligence market continues to intensify, with major technology companies racing to deliver more capable and cost effective models.
According to SpaceXAI, Grok 4.5 delivers twice the token efficiency of other leading AI models, a claim that could have significant implications for businesses and developers that rely heavily on large language models. Token efficiency has become an increasingly important metric because it directly affects the cost of operating and scaling AI services. SpaceXAI stated that improved efficiency could help reduce expenses for customers while maintaining strong performance across a variety of tasks. The company also released benchmark data that it said demonstrates Grok 4.5’s competitiveness against other leading models in the market, although the results place it slightly behind the industry’s highest performing systems. Even so, the company believes the combination of performance and cost effectiveness positions Grok 4.5 as a compelling alternative for enterprises and developers seeking more affordable AI capabilities.
In comments shared on X, founder Elon Musk compared Grok 4.5 with Anthropic’s Opus large language model, which is designed for demanding and complex workloads. Musk stated that feedback from customers participating in the company’s beta testing program had been highly positive and announced that Grok 4.5 would be made available to the public. He described the model as being in the same class as Opus while delivering faster performance, improved token efficiency, and lower operating costs. Musk later added that internal assessments indicated Grok 4.5 is roughly comparable to Opus 4.7 in terms of capability but offers a speed advantage that strengthens its competitive position in the market.
SpaceXAI has priced Grok 4.5 at two dollars per million input tokens and six dollars per million output tokens. By comparison, Anthropic’s Opus 4.7 costs five dollars per million input tokens and twenty five dollars per million output tokens. OpenAI currently uses a tiered pricing strategy across its model portfolio, with its premium Sol model priced at five dollars per million input tokens and thirty dollars per million output tokens, while its lower cost Luna model is available at one dollar per million input tokens and six dollars per million output tokens. The launch of Grok 4.5 arrives during a particularly active period for the artificial intelligence sector, as OpenAI is also expected to release GPT 5.6, which the company has described as its most powerful model to date. The release of new models from leading AI developers highlights the growing focus on balancing performance, efficiency, and affordability as organizations and developers continue to increase their reliance on artificial intelligence technologies.
