Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has inaugurated the Sky47 AI cloud and data centre in Rawalpindi, describing the project as an important milestone in strengthening Pakistan’s digital infrastructure and supporting the country’s technological future. Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the prime minister said the facility would provide what he described as impregnable security while contributing to the development of a more dynamic and forward looking Pakistan. He praised the project as remarkable and inspiring, noting that it had been completed in a record period by highly skilled professionals from both the military and civilian sectors. The prime minister said the state of the art facility demonstrated Pakistan’s technical capabilities and highlighted the importance of collaboration in delivering advanced national infrastructure. He also commended the leadership of the field marshal, stating that the project was completed under his supervision within a short timeframe.
During his address, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the successful completion of the project reflected the country’s ability to overcome challenges through determination and cooperation. He stated that following a similar development model would help Pakistan recover from previous setbacks while creating new opportunities for growth and technological advancement. Referring to Marka e Haq against India last year, he described it as one of the defining moments in the country’s history and said it demonstrated that determination and commitment could transform challenges into achievements. Calling the Sky47 facility the future of Pakistan, the prime minister said the project provides secure digital infrastructure and proves that ambitious national initiatives can be successfully implemented through coordinated efforts.
Minister for IT and Telecom Shaza Fatima Khawaja also addressed the ceremony, describing the data centre as an important step toward building the digital infrastructure required to support Pakistan’s future economy. She said the facility provides a foundation capable of supporting what she referred to as token intelligence while creating new opportunities for innovation and economic growth. According to the minister, Pakistan’s young population and strong technical talent position the country to benefit from continued investment in advanced digital technologies. Sky47 Limited, a majority owned subsidiary of Mari Energies Limited, also announced the launch of the facility through a disclosure submitted to Pakistan Stock Exchange. The company stated that Karakoram 01 has been developed to support artificial intelligence, machine learning, and high performance computing while helping protect sensitive national and commercial data through secure locally hosted infrastructure.
According to Sky47 Limited, Karakoram 01 has been designed to provide sovereign cloud infrastructure, artificial intelligence computing, cybersecurity solutions, enterprise hosting, and managed technology services for organizations across Pakistan. The company said the facility is intended to support critical workloads in government, banking, telecommunications, healthcare, and technology sectors, enabling organizations to manage sensitive digital operations within the country. The launch comes as demand for artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and data localisation continues to increase, with both public and private sector organizations seeking secure domestic infrastructure to support modern digital services. By providing advanced computing capabilities and locally hosted cloud services, the new facility is expected to strengthen Pakistan’s digital ecosystem while supporting the growing requirements of enterprises and institutions adopting artificial intelligence and other data intensive technologies.
