German software giant SAP sees technology as the answer to Pakistan’s economic woes, but a leadership crisis threatens to stall the country’s digital transformation journey.
This concern was raised by Ahmed Al-Faifi, Senior Vice President and Managing Director of SAP Middle East & Africa (MEA) North, during a recent press conference. While acknowledging economic challenges, Al-Faifi stressed, “technology offers solutions to overcome those challenges.”
SAP remains committed to supporting Pakistan’s digital transformation, assisting government ministries, departments, and private businesses. Despite repatriation hurdles, they view Pakistan as a vital market.
Saquib Ahmad, SAP Country Manager for Pakistan, pinpointed the real roadblock: leadership and change management. Public enthusiasm for technology exists, but decision-makers need to embrace advancements and drive change.
“The software is there,” said Ahmad, highlighting SAP’s data-driven solutions. “But ultimately, the decisions rest with the decision-makers.” He urged leaders to proactively adopt technology and foster a culture of change, not seek alterations to fit outdated practices.
Al-Faifi cited Saudi Arabia’s successful economic diversification through technology as an example for Pakistan to emulate.
