A data breach affecting over 2.2 million Pakistani citizens has come to light, with hackers claiming to possess stolen information from more than 250 restaurants. The compromised data reportedly includes customer contact numbers and credit card details, raising concerns about potential identity theft and financial fraud.
According to reports, the hackers targeted a software program widely used by restaurants across Pakistan. The stolen data is said to include details of customer transactions, potentially revealing spending habits and purchase history. The hackers reportedly demanded a ransom of 2 Bitcoins, roughly equivalent to $54,000, in exchange for the data.
Pakistani authorities have not yet received any official reports of this breach. Cybersecurity experts urge caution, advising restaurant patrons to monitor their bank statements for suspicious activity and consider contacting their credit card companies for potential fraud protection measures.
The incident highlights the vulnerability of personal data in the digital age and underscores the importance of robust data security practices in the restaurant industry.
