PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) struck a landmark deal with OpenAI on Wednesday, becoming the first official reseller and the largest user of their enterprise-grade ChatGPT product.
The agreement grants access to ChatGPT Enterprise, a business-focused version of OpenAI’s popular generative AI chatbot, to PwC’s US and UK branches. This allows both PwC employees and their clients to leverage the tool’s capabilities.
“This partnership expands our technology ecosystem, deepens our AI integration, and empowers us to scale AI solutions across businesses, ultimately accelerating positive outcomes for our clients,” stated PwC in a Wednesday blog post.
The deal provides access to OpenAI’s latest advancements, including the recently unveiled ChatGPT-4o model and functionalities focused on voice and image processing, for PwC’s US and UK personnel and clients.
“Our position at the forefront of OpenAI’s models and as the first company to announce integration into its practice makes us uniquely qualified to assist clients in utilizing ChatGPT Enterprise for improved and more efficient work methods,” PwC emphasized.
According to The Wall Street Journal, PwC will equip over 100,000 employees with ChatGPT Enterprise licenses. The company did not specify the exact number of employees who would be actively using the tool.
This deal marks a significant shift for OpenAI, as it represents their first foray into a resale model for their popular AI products. The company reportedly faces significant financial losses due to the immense computational costs associated with generative AI. Premium subscriptions and enterprise sales are becoming increasingly central to their strategy for generating revenue from AI.
This partnership aligns with PwC’s broader push into the realm of AI. In April 2023, the company announced a three-year, $1 billion investment commitment to expand and enhance its AI capabilities.
PwC claims to be developing custom GPT models to assist its workforce with tasks and has assisted clients in accelerating their implementation of generative AI.
