Pakistan Strengthens Telecom Security with National Center NTSOC

Published:

Pakistan’s telecommunication sector is taking a significant step forward in combating cyber threats. PTA recently launched the National Telecom Security Operations Center (NTSOC), a centralized platform designed to manage and effectively mitigate cyber security incidents.

Established under the Pakistan National Cybersecurity Policy 2021 and Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA 2016), NTSOC aims to secure Pakistan’s critical telecom data and infrastructure against cyberattacks. Cyber security expert Etizaz Mohsin applauds the initiative, calling it a significant step towards strengthening Pakistan’s cyber defenses. He anticipates improved protection for critical infrastructure, enhanced national cyber security ranking, and a more efficient response to cyberattacks.

NTSOC integrates with telecom operators’ Security Operations Centers (SOCs) and the national Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT), fostering a collaborative approach to cyber security. This integration allows for a quicker and more effective response to incidents. Six telecom operators are currently on board, with the rest expected to follow suit.

The rise of cyber threats has created a growing demand for cyber security expertise. Nasheed Malik, ICT Analyst at Topline Research, sees the NTSOC as a business opportunity for IT companies. He emphasizes the need for both public and private sectors to invest in cyber security solutions and personnel to stay protected. This demand could fuel growth in the domestic cyber security industry.

The launch of the NTSOC signifies a positive step towards robust cyber defenses for Pakistan’s telecom sector. However, Nasheed Malik cautions that this is just the beginning. He emphasizes the ongoing need for proactive measures from both the government and private sector to safeguard their systems and data from evolving cyber threats. The establishment of the NTSOC demonstrates Pakistan’s commitment to cyber security, but further work is necessary to ensure a truly secure digital landscape.
