Pakistan Ramps Up Cybersecurity Awareness with CyberPak Initiative by NIC Islamabad

October marks Cybersecurity Awareness Month (CSAM), a global initiative established in 2003 by the National Cyber Security Alliance and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. CSAM highlights the critical need for online safety and security for everyone.

Cybersecurity has become a major concern for the global economy, with global spending reaching $145 billion annually and projected to surpass $1 trillion by 2021. The increasing number of cyberattacks underscores the growing urgency of this issue.

Recognizing this growing threat, the National Incubation Center (NIC) Islamabad has launched CyberPak. CyberPak aims to unite Pakistani cybersecurity experts and leverage their expertise for several key initiatives: collaborating on national and personal security projects, raising cybersecurity awareness, training cybersecurity professionals, and promoting a culture of cybersecurity awareness throughout Pakistan.

The official launch event featured Shayan Yar as the master of ceremonies, welcoming guests and outlining the program.Parvez Abbasi introduced NIC and moderated a panel discussion on the state of cybersecurity in Pakistan. Adan Kamran then presented the concept of CyberPak to the audience. CyberPak concluded the event by presenting appreciation shields to panelists and the chief guest.

The event welcomed esteemed guests including Mr. Babur Suhail (Legal Member, Ministry of IT & Telco), Ms. Aisha Humera (Executive Director, NITB), Mr. Zouhair Khaliq (Co-Founder, Teamup), and Mr. Parvez Abbasi (Program Manager, NIC). Additionally, expert panelists included Mr. Jawad Khalid (Chief Information Security Officer, Askari Bank), Mr. Faisal Imtiaz (Chief Information Security Officer, NTC), Mr. Tauseef Aslam (Chief Information Security Officer, UBL), and Mr. Shahmeer Amir (CEO, Younite).

This launch signifies Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening its cybersecurity posture through collaboration and awareness initiatives.
