Pakistan Launches First AI Enabled Parliamentary System Under Digital Nation Pakistan Vision

Published:

History has been made at National Assembly of Pakistan with the inauguration of the country’s first AI enabled parliamentary system under the Digital Nation Pakistan Vision announced by Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif. The system has been jointly developed and launched by the National Information Technology Board and National Assembly of Pakistan, marking a major shift in how legislative operations are supported through digital technologies. The initiative was formally inaugurated by Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, bringing artificial intelligence into the parliamentary environment to support decision making, documentation, and administrative efficiency within the legislative framework. The development reflects a structured move toward integrating advanced computing systems into governance processes while maintaining institutional control and national data ownership.

The newly introduced AI enabled parliamentary platform has been deployed entirely on on premises infrastructure to ensure full data sovereignty and secure handling of sensitive legislative information. According to officials involved in the project, the system has been designed specifically for use within the Speaker’s Office and related parliamentary functions. It introduces multiple AI powered capabilities aimed at improving workflow efficiency, including semantic search for retrieving relevant legislative content, automated bill summarisation for faster review of complex legal documents, and legal reference extraction to assist in identifying supporting material from parliamentary records. The system also integrates speech and brief assistance tools to support communication and documentation processes, along with smart meeting management features designed to streamline scheduling, agenda preparation, and administrative coordination within parliamentary operations.

The introduction of this system also includes sovereign infrastructure controls that ensure all data processing remains within national systems without reliance on external platforms. This approach has been implemented to maintain data integrity and institutional security while enabling the use of artificial intelligence in governance functions. The platform is intended to support parliamentary staff and leadership by reducing manual workload and improving access to structured information during legislative proceedings. It also enhances the ability to process large volumes of documentation by using AI based summarisation and contextual search tools that assist in identifying key legislative references and relevant historical records within the National Assembly archives.

This initiative is part of the broader Digital Nation Pakistan Vision, which focuses on integrating digital systems across government institutions to improve efficiency, transparency, and administrative performance. The collaboration between National Information Technology Board and National Assembly of Pakistan reflects a coordinated effort to modernize legislative processes through controlled adoption of artificial intelligence technologies. By embedding AI tools into parliamentary workflows, the system aims to support better information management and assist lawmakers in accessing relevant data more efficiently during sessions and committee work. Officials highlighted that the platform has been built to align with institutional requirements while ensuring secure handling of parliamentary data within a sovereign digital environment.
