The Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) has taken a significant step toward implementing a cloud-first policy in Pakistan by initiating the creation of the Cloud Procurement Framework (CPF). ProPakistani sources reveal that the Ministry of IT and Telecom officials have informed the Strategic Implementation and Facilitation Cell (SIFC) about the commencement of work on this policy, emphasizing the establishment of cloud infrastructure in the country.
The Cloud Procurement Framework is essential for acquiring cloud services in Pakistan, and the Ministry of IT and Telecom is collaboratively working with the PPRA for its formulation. Throughout the drafting process, the PPRA has engaged in multiple consultations with the Ministry of IT & Telecom, incorporating the ministry’s suggestions into the initial draft.
Sources indicate that the PPRA is currently in the consultation phase with various government agencies and stakeholders. Once this phase concludes, the draft will undergo scrutiny by the PPRA Board for final approval. While the Sindh Cabinet has already approved the cloud-first policy, progress in other provinces, particularly Punjab, remains pending Cabinet approval.
The SIFC has urged swift preparation of the cloud framework, emphasizing the need for all provinces to promptly endorse the cloud-first policy. This coordinated effort aims to accelerate the implementation of cloud technology across the country.
