Nutanix and MEWA Advance Hybrid Multicloud Infrastructure in Saudi Arabia

Published:

Saudi Arabia is continuing to strengthen its digital transformation strategy by investing in infrastructure designed to support long term innovation, resilience and operational flexibility. As government organisations move beyond adopting individual digital technologies, greater attention is being placed on building platforms that can support future workloads while maintaining security and business continuity. Reflecting this direction, Nutanix and Saudi Arabia Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture (MEWA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to explore opportunities for modernising the ministry’s digital infrastructure through hybrid multicloud technologies. The proposed collaboration is intended to improve operational resilience while supporting artificial intelligence readiness, cybersecurity capabilities and the development of national technical expertise.

Under the Memorandum of Understanding, Nutanix and MEWA will explore ways to modernise the ministry’s technology environment by implementing infrastructure capable of supporting applications and workloads across data centres and multiple cloud environments. The collaboration is expected to focus on improving flexibility, mobility and resilience while ensuring that critical government systems continue to meet security and operational requirements. The agreement also places significant emphasis on strengthening business continuity and disaster recovery capabilities, both of which are becoming increasingly important as public sector organisations rely more heavily on digital services. Dr. Abdullhameed Abdullah Aleliwi, Deputy Minister for Information Technology and Digital Transformation at Saudi Arabia Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, said the ministry looks forward to exploring opportunities through the Memorandum of Understanding to enhance its digital infrastructure, strengthen business continuity and develop national capabilities in advanced cloud and artificial intelligence technologies. The agreement reflects a broader priority among government organisations to create technology environments that support both existing digital services and future innovations without becoming dependent on a single operating platform.

Artificial intelligence also forms an important part of the proposed collaboration, as public sector organisations continue preparing for wider AI adoption across government operations. Nutanix noted that the infrastructure supporting these technologies will play a key role in determining how effectively artificial intelligence applications can be deployed, managed and expanded over time. Hybrid multicloud architecture provides organisations with greater flexibility in managing workloads while enabling them to maintain security, compliance and performance across different environments. By exploring infrastructure that supports application portability and efficient workload management, the collaboration seeks to establish a stronger technology foundation capable of supporting evolving government requirements. The initiative also aligns with Saudi Arabia’s broader objective of developing modern digital infrastructure that can support emerging technologies while maintaining operational reliability across critical public services.

Another key aspect of the Memorandum of Understanding is its focus on knowledge transfer and the development of local technical talent. Alongside infrastructure modernisation, the collaboration aims to strengthen Saudi expertise in hybrid multicloud computing, modern infrastructure management and advanced digital technologies. This supports the Kingdom’s wider efforts to build national technology capabilities while encouraging greater localisation of digital skills. For Nutanix, the agreement reinforces the strategic importance of supporting Saudi Arabia’s ongoing public sector digital transformation initiatives. For MEWA, it represents an opportunity to establish a more agile and resilient technology environment that can support current operational requirements while preparing for future artificial intelligence driven services. By combining hybrid multicloud infrastructure, cybersecurity, business continuity planning and workforce development, the collaboration reflects Saudi Arabia’s continuing efforts to build secure, flexible and future ready digital infrastructure across government institutions.
