The National Computer Emergency Response Team (National CERT) and the Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology (GIKI) have joined forces to strengthen cybersecurity innovation in Pakistan. This strategic partnership, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), aims to address the growing cybersecurity challenges and foster a more secure digital future.

Dr. Haider Abbas, TI, Director General of National CERT, participated as an expert panelist at the 19th International Conference on Emerging Technologies (ICET 2024), organized by GIKI. During the conference, Dr. Abbas emphasized the critical role of cybersecurity in safeguarding Pakistan’s digital infrastructure and driving technological innovation.

The MoU outlines several key areas of collaboration, including joint research and development initiatives to address emerging cybersecurity threats and vulnerabilities. The partnership will also focus on capacity building through training programs and workshops, as well as developing specialized cybersecurity training programs to certify experts.

Additionally, the agreement will facilitate access to advanced tools and labs for conducting advanced research and analysis. Both organizations will collaborate on incident response and forensic investigations, sharing expertise and resources to effectively address cyber incidents. Furthermore, the partnership will foster the growth of cybersecurity talent through internships, job placements, and mentorship programs.

This partnership between National CERT and GIKI marks a significant step towards strengthening Pakistan’s cybersecurity ecosystem. By combining the expertise and resources of both organizations, they will work together to develop innovative solutions, address evolving threats, and protect critical infrastructure.
