Meta, in collaboration with the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT), hosted “Future in Focus: AI and Innovation,” an event dedicated to driving digital transformation and artificial intelligence adoption across Pakistan. The gathering brought together representatives from government, academia, and the private sector to explore practical ways to strengthen the country’s technological ecosystem through responsible AI implementation and capacity building.
At the event, Meta unveiled a series of initiatives aimed at supporting the local community and public sector institutions. Among the highlights was the introduction of Urdu language support for Meta AI, allowing users in Pakistan to communicate with the AI assistant in their native language. This development expands accessibility for millions of Urdu speakers, enabling them to search, learn, and interact with digital tools more naturally. Meta also launched a localized version of its guide “Transforming Public Sector Innovation in Asia Pacific with Llama,” created in partnership with Deloitte. The guide, developed with support from MoITT, outlines how Meta’s open-source AI model Llama can streamline government operations, improve public services, and uphold data sovereignty through secure and sustainable AI applications.
Meta further announced a collaborative AI Literacy Program in partnership with the Higher Education Commission (HEC), National Computing Education Accreditation Council (NCEAC), MoITT, and atomcamp. This program aims to train 350 non-computer science faculty members across universities in Pakistan, enhancing their understanding of AI concepts and preparing them to teach emerging technologies to students from various disciplines. By equipping educators with AI knowledge, the initiative seeks to bridge the gap between academia and industry, fostering a culture of digital readiness among future professionals.
In addition, Meta introduced the Government Digital Transformation Xperience (GDTX) 2025 program, designed to support public sector organizations in adopting AI-driven strategies and digital tools. The program provides access to Meta’s technologies, solutions, and best practices while encouraging collaboration between public and private stakeholders to accelerate institutional digital maturity.
Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, emphasized that these efforts align with the Prime Minister’s Digital Nation Vision, which focuses on using technology to empower citizens and promote inclusion. She noted that the introduction of Urdu for Meta AI is a key step toward ensuring that digital transformation reaches all segments of society. Dr. Syed Mansoor Sarwar, Vice Chair of NCEAC, highlighted the importance of faculty capacity building in advancing computing education, while atomcamp CEO Fizza Amjad stated that training non-technical faculty members would create long-term impact across disciplines.
Sarim Aziz, Director of Public Policy South and Central Asia at Meta, reiterated the company’s commitment to supporting Pakistan’s vision for innovation and growth through AI. He said that by working closely with MoITT, HEC, and other partners, Meta aims to help both academia and the public sector leverage AI to enhance efficiency, innovation, and citizen engagement. These new initiatives demonstrate Meta’s long-term commitment to fostering responsible AI adoption, supporting government digitization, and expanding access to technology for all communities across Pakistan.
