Kaspersky Advises Users To Avoid Sharing Personal Data With AI Tools Due To Security Risks

Kaspersky has advised individuals and organizations to avoid sharing personal information with Artificial Intelligence tools and assistants due to increasing concerns surrounding data security and privacy risks. The cybersecurity company released findings from a recent survey that examined how consumers are using AI in travel planning and highlighted the growing awareness of potential dangers associated with sharing sensitive information with digital assistants. While the research showed that AI has become an increasingly popular tool for travelers seeking convenience and efficiency, it also revealed that many users remain cautious about entrusting these platforms with personal data.

According to the survey, the primary reason people turn to AI during travel planning is to save time and simplify the preparation process, with 73 percent of respondents identifying these benefits as the main motivation. Another 65 percent said they use AI to search for information about major attractions and receive recommendations tailored to their individual preferences. In addition, 63 percent of participants rely on AI tools to identify favorable deals and budget friendly offers, while 61 percent said these platforms help them discover information that may otherwise be difficult to find. The findings indicate that artificial intelligence is becoming deeply integrated into various stages of travel planning, from gathering information and creating itineraries to comparing prices and identifying accommodation options.

The study also found that AI tools are increasingly being used for booking hotels, purchasing tickets, and managing travel arrangements, activities that often require users to provide personal information and payment details. Despite these conveniences, many respondents expressed concerns about the security implications of sharing sensitive data with AI systems. According to Kaspersky’s research, 48 percent of users recognize security risks associated with AI and intentionally avoid sharing confidential information with these platforms. Another 37 percent reported that while they do not have major concerns about AI technologies, they still exercise caution when interacting with them. Combined, these figures show that 86 percent of respondents who use AI for travel planning consider data security an important factor when using such tools. Only 14 percent of travelers said they are completely confident that sharing any type of data with AI systems is entirely secure.

Kaspersky noted that private conversations with AI tools can still be exposed to cyber threats and warned that attractive offers or recommendations generated by chatbots may sometimes lead users toward scams or fraudulent websites. However, the company emphasized that these concerns do not mean individuals should completely stop using artificial intelligence technologies. Instead, it recommended adopting a careful approach and avoiding the disclosure of sensitive information such as identification documents, home addresses, passwords, financial information, and other confidential details when interacting with AI assistants. The company also advised users to be selective about the platforms where they upload personal information and to verify links, emails, and recommendations generated by AI systems before acting on them. The findings highlight the growing importance of cybersecurity awareness as artificial intelligence becomes increasingly integrated into everyday digital experiences and business operations.
