Information Technology University hosted its first Cyber Security Round Table, bringing together leading experts, industry professionals, and academics. The event focused on current trends, emerging threats, and opportunities for research and collaboration in the critical field of cybersecurity.

Vice Chancellor of ITU and UNESCO Chair of ICTD, Prof. Dr. Adnan Noor Mian, led the discussions. A key topic was the potential for ITU to offer a specialization or even a Master’s program in Cybersecurity.

“In today’s interconnected world, cybersecurity is essential for safeguarding our digital infrastructure and protecting sensitive information,” said Prof. Mian. “The increasing frequency and sophistication of cyber threats necessitate stronger defenses for organizations and individuals alike.”

The round table fostered a rich exchange of ideas, experiences, and potential collaborations. Participants discussed the importance of developing indigenous cybersecurity systems, product development, training and certification for educators, student counseling, evolving market demands for cybersecurity professionals, and the need to incentivize talented undergraduates to pursue graduate studies in the field.

Prominent industry leaders and academics participated in the event, including Ahrar Naqvi (CEO, Ebryx), Dr. Zartash Afzal Uzmi (Confiz Limited/LUMS), Wahaj Khan (CEO, Codesgic), Dr. Hasan Islam (Director, WATHEQ Cyber Security Testing and Validation Lab), and representatives from FAST-NUCES, Nokia Networks, ACET, Arhamsoft, Virtual Force, and ITU faculty.

This initiative by Prof. Mian is expected to lay the groundwork for ongoing collaboration and knowledge-sharing in the crucial domain of cybersecurity, fostering a synergistic environment for future advancements.
