The 6th Edition of the Leaders in Islamabad Business Summit wrapped up with a call to action. Leaders urged a national “Big Rethink” on how we approach work, life, and pressing issues like climate change.
Climate Change Minister Senator Sherry Rehman stressed the urgency of tackling climate change and pollution. She called on media outlets to create space for open discussion and for businesses to move beyond limited CSR initiatives.
Education was another key area of focus. Experts like former Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood emphasized the need for a national curriculum that focuses on skills and for bridging the gap between privileged and underprivileged students.
The summit explored the potential of emerging technologies like the Metaverse, Blockchain, and Fintech. Leaders like Michael Foley of Airtel Africa highlighted Pakistan’s untapped potential in the Metaverse, while Muhammad Salman Anjum of InvoiceMate advocated for trust-building technologies like Blockchain.
Financial inclusion was another important topic. Panelists like Kabeer Naqvi of U Microfinance Bank called for breaking down barriers to financial services, particularly for women.
Gen. Zubair Hayat, former Chairman of Pakistan’s Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, urged participants to develop a stronger national narrative for the future. He emphasized the need for ownership and taking responsibility for progress.
The summit, hailed as the largest and most sought-after corporate event in Pakistan, brought together over 50 national and international speakers. The 7th Edition of LIIBS is already scheduled for March 6 and 7, 2024.
