In a significant move towards enhancing national cybersecurity awareness and capabilities, the Ministerial Committee for Scientific and Technological Cooperation of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) joined hands with Huawei Technologies Pakistan, signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU). The collaboration, announced in Islamabad, focuses on bolstering the cybersecurity expertise of OIC member states.
Under the MoU, COMSTECH and Huawei will prioritize the enhancement of OIC’s cybersecurity professional capabilities, covering areas such as security management, incident response, vulnerability management, and understanding new security technologies. Ethan Sun, CEO of Huawei Pakistan, emphasized that the MoU lays the groundwork for OIC member states to access opportunities for cybersecurity awareness and training through knowledge sharing.
Huawei, a global leader in digital transformation and communication technologies, will support COMSTECH in hosting cybersecurity training based on Huawei’s practices and experience. The training aims to systematically enhance cybersecurity awareness and build the capacity of selected OIC governmental employees and officers. Additionally, Huawei will participate in influential regional cybersecurity events and activities, including GISEC and GITEX.
Given the increasing reliance on digital solutions, especially in government, financial services, and healthcare, cybersecurity is crucial for economic continuity, stability, and growth. Huawei’s collaboration with COMSTECH aligns with the global need for cybersecurity expertise and the promotion of responsible and secure ICT technology across industries.
COMSTECH, established in 1981, plays a vital role in fostering cooperation among OIC Member States in science and technology. The collaboration with Huawei aims to catalyze cybersecurity innovation, generate knowledge products, and showcase OIC’s advancements in the cybersecurity domain. Prof Dr M Iqbal Choudhary, Coordinator General of COMSTECH, signed the MoU on behalf of the Ministerial Committee for Scientific and Technological Cooperation of the OIC.
