Google removed Kaspersky’s Android security applications from the Google Play Store and disabled the Russian company’s developer accounts. Users reported that Kaspersky’s products, including Kaspersky Endpoint Security and VPN & Antivirus by Kaspersky, are no longer accessible in the United States and various other regions.
Kaspersky acknowledged the situation on its official forums, stating that the company is investigating the reasons behind the removal of its software from Google’s platform. “The downloads and updates of Kaspersky products are temporarily unavailable on the Google Play Store,” a Kaspersky representative said. The company is exploring potential solutions to restore access to its applications.
In the meantime, Kaspersky has advised users to consider alternative methods for installing its products. Users can utilize app stores such as the Galaxy Store, Huawei AppGallery, and Xiaomi GetApps. Additionally, the .apk installation file can be downloaded directly from Kaspersky’s website for installation on Android devices.
This development follows Kaspersky’s announcement in July regarding the closure of its operations in the United States due to U.S. government sanctions imposed on the company and 12 of its executives over national security concerns.
A Google spokesperson confirmed that the recent restrictions announced by the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security prompted the decision to block Kaspersky’s apps on the Play Store. “As a result, we have removed Kaspersky’s apps from Google Play,” the spokesperson stated.
In a related incident, in September, Kaspersky reportedly uninstalled its anti-malware software from customers’ computers in the United States and replaced it with UltraAV’s antivirus solution without prior notification or consent from users.
