Federal Minister for Finance Muhammad Aurangzeb met with Huawei Pakistan’s Chief Executive Officer Sun Xiaofei and his senior management team at the Finance Division on Thursday.

During the meeting, Xiaofei briefed the minister on Huawei’s extensive digital and ICT initiatives. He underscored Huawei’s pivotal role in advancing Pakistan’s ICT sector over the past 25 years and expressed optimism about Pakistan’s potential to emerge as a regional IT hub.

Highlighting Huawei’s Pakistan Global Service Centre (GSC), which serves partners in the Middle East, Central Asia, and Africa, the delegation proposed collaborations in tax digitalization, e-invoicing, revenue automation, and IT applications. These initiatives aim to enhance Pakistan’s digital ecosystem and foster sustainable economic growth.

Minister Aurangzeb welcomed Huawei’s proposals, acknowledging the company’s contributions and its interest in bolstering Pakistan’s digital economy. He updated the delegation on the Federal Board of Revenue’s (FBR) ongoing efforts to digitize the tax system, noting opportunities for leveraging available data for immediate benefits.

Expressing his appreciation for Huawei’s commitment to partnering with the government, Aurangzeb discussed potential avenues for cooperation. He also received an invitation from Huawei’s CEO to visit their Shenzhen headquarters, where discussions on finance and digital economy cooperation would be further explored.
