Lahore – Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has introduced key updates to its IRIS 2.0 system, aiming to simplify password and account recovery for taxpayers across Pakistan. Previously, individuals who had lost access to their registered mobile numbers often faced significant obstacles in resetting their passwords. This situation forced many to visit Regional Tax Offices or seek assistance from third-party agents, frequently incurring high fees and encountering delays in filing returns. For citizens who had moved to new locations or were working outstation, the process was particularly cumbersome and time-consuming.
Under the newly introduced Account Recovery option, taxpayers can now reset their passwords through their registered cell numbers even if these were not originally linked with their accounts. This feature works alongside the existing Forgot Password function and has been positively received for reducing administrative burdens and making digital compliance more practical for a wide range of users. By offering a self-service recovery mechanism, FBR has addressed a long-standing issue that has affected both individual taxpayers and small businesses, enabling smoother access to its online services.
In addition to improving password recovery, FBR has enhanced the New Registration tab in IRIS 2.0 to strengthen verification processes. Individuals registering for the first time are now required to provide their CNIC, expiry date, date of birth and full name. Previously, CNIC expiry and date of birth fields were optional, which often led to mismatches and verification difficulties during the registration process. By standardizing the required data fields, FBR aims to ensure more accurate identification and reduce the likelihood of errors in taxpayer profiles. These changes also support better data integrity across the system, which benefits both taxpayers and the administration by improving record-keeping and service delivery.
These updates are part of FBR’s ongoing efforts to streamline digital tax filing and reduce the need for in-person visits to tax offices. By integrating enhanced recovery and registration features into IRIS 2.0, FBR is expanding the accessibility of its platform to taxpayers in all regions of Pakistan, including those who may be relocating or working remotely. The adjustments reflect a broader move toward building more user-friendly digital systems for public services, where taxpayers can manage their accounts, submit returns and maintain compliance with greater convenience. This initiative also signals a shift in how FBR approaches digital interaction with citizens, focusing on reducing bottlenecks and promoting more efficient service delivery for individuals and businesses alike.
