Faisalabad, Pakistan’s industrial hub, is witnessing a worrying rise in online scams. The FIA’s cybercrime wing has apprehended over 300 fraudsters in 2023 alone, a sign of the city’s growing vulnerability to cybercrime.
This surge follows a concerning trend. Over 1,100 residents in Faisalabad fell victim to online scams in 2022, losing millions of rupees. The FIA is urging citizens to be cautious, as scammers often use masking software to impersonate bank representatives. These imposters trick victims into revealing bank account details or lure them with the promise of “changing” ATM cards.
The rise in online scams highlights the need for increased awareness and education. By staying vigilant and understanding common tactics used by fraudsters, Faisalabad residents can protect themselves from financial loss.
