year-ahead-logoWhat is the ‘09TheYearAhead Summit?
The CIOYearAhead series is an annual assessment of how far an industry has progressed over the course of one year along with the identification of opportunities that the industry should be working towards in the coming year. Panel discussions have traditionally always looked at the past situation and giving recommendations for the future. ’09TheYearAhead takes this process one step ahead. Content experts and trendsetters will be able to present the local industry in its realistic and holistic situation vis a vis the global marketplace, and make recommendations as to how strengths can be aligned in line with local and international trends and opportunities.

In all the policy deliberation that Pakistan has been through, an underlying message that has been consistently missing from the picture has been what the long term strategy or goals of the industry are. ’09TheYearAhead invites a multi-stakeholder environment, experts and content owners to present how far the local industry has come and help to establish clear, precise, distinct goals which an industry can use to measure its successes or failures against.

Why the event?
After its launch in August 2008, CIO Pakistan announced a number of focus group events to work with the local industry to identify key areas and develop strategy that will ultimately create a multi-stakeholder community that can influence policy and develop long term strategy. After a great deal of deliberation and consultation, CIO Pakistan ’09TheYearAhead identified a few of the major challenges that need to be prioritized to meet immediate development demands and contribute towards the long term sustainability of the industry.

The Summit hopes to focus on Human Resource, Capacity Building and Alignment which are in line with one of the critical problems faced by the local industry and the academia. The Summit will also address some of the key areas of the National IT Policy, created in 2000, and conduct critical analysis of why some of the dynamic areas have failed to be implemented and recommend what some key areas for the way forward should be. After all, there can be no prediction of the future if we don’t see what has helped to foster the growth we have experienced thus far.
