Bank Alfalah’s mobile app update aimed at enhancing security has backfired for some users. The new feature restricts logins to a single device, causing inconvenience for customers who previously accessed their accounts from multiple phones.
The update has sparked user frustration due to a lack of prior notification and a cumbersome workaround. Clearing app data offers a temporary fix for some, but most require contacting the bank to unbind the app from their current device. Additionally, registering a new device necessitates creating a new password and PIN, further adding to the hassle.
Ironically, the feature allows logins from multiple computers, seemingly defeating its purpose of single-device security.
Bank Alfalah acknowledges the inconvenience caused to “customers who were accessing our digital banking from multiple devices.” They claim 99% of their customer base utilizes a single device, implying only a small percentage (around 50,000 users based on their 5 million customer base) are affected.
The bank is developing a “slicker digital process” to enable multi-device registration within “a few weeks,” aiming to appease users who require access across multiple phones without compromising overall security.
