Anthropic has announced the launch of Claude Corps, a new fellowship initiative designed to provide early career professionals with practical artificial intelligence experience while supporting nonprofits, government agencies, and public interest organizations across the United States. The 12 month program will offer selected participants an annual salary of $85,000 and place them within mission driven organizations where they will work on AI related projects using Anthropic’s Claude platform. The fellowship is being developed through a partnership between Anthropic, CodePath, and Social Finance, with the company committing an initial investment of $150 million to support the initiative. According to Anthropic, the program aims to equip participants with real world AI skills while helping organizations adopt and implement technology solutions that improve operational efficiency and service delivery. The first group of fellows is scheduled to begin on October 19, 2026, marking the start of a broader effort that will eventually involve 1,000 participants.
Under the Claude Corps program, fellows will be embedded within host organizations where they will work full time for one year on projects involving AI powered tools, automation systems, integrations, and internal operational solutions. Anthropic stated that fellows will not only build technology solutions but will also play a role in helping teams understand and adopt AI tools for long term use. The company described the ideal candidates as adaptable professionals capable of building solutions, educating teams, identifying organizational needs, and translating technical concepts for staff members with limited technology backgrounds. The first cohort will include approximately 100 fellows, while additional groups are expected to begin in January 2027 and August 2027. Anthropic noted that the objective is to create a workforce capable of applying AI technologies in practical settings where public service, community development, and social impact initiatives can benefit from increased technological capabilities.
The eligibility requirements have been designed to encourage applications from individuals with diverse educational and professional backgrounds. Applicants must be at least 18 years old and have less than two years of full time work experience. Anthropic has clarified that there is no minimum educational qualification and that candidates are not required to possess computer science degrees or formal technical training. Instead, the company is seeking individuals who already use AI tools in their daily lives or professional activities and who have demonstrated involvement in addressing community issues, social causes, or public interest challenges. Applicants must also be authorized to work in the United States and be willing to relocate if required by their placement. The fellowship does not provide visa sponsorship. The application process includes completion of Anthropic’s AI Fluency and Claude 101 courses, submission of a short application form, and responses to two short answer questions. Candidates progressing further in the process will complete a take home assessment, participate in a 25 minute discussion, and undergo a final interview stage before meeting with potential host organizations.
The fellowship structure combines formal training with hands on experience. Participants will begin with an intensive training period focused on AI skills and the practical use of Claude. After onboarding, fellows will dedicate approximately five hours each week to structured learning activities while spending the majority of their time working directly on projects within their assigned organizations. Additional support will be provided through mentorship from CodePath, technical office hours hosted by Anthropic, collaboration opportunities with peers across the national fellowship network, and guidance from supervisors at host organizations. Each fellow will also receive up to $2,500 in Claude API credits for approved projects developed during the program. Participants will be employed full time by CodePath and receive a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) retirement plan, paid holidays, flexible paid time off, life and disability insurance, flexible spending accounts, employee assistance programs, and pet insurance. Applications for the first cohort are open until July 17, 2026, while applications for the January 2027 and August 2027 cohorts will continue to be accepted on a rolling basis.
