Anthropic has introduced new features for its Claude platform, allowing users to access and better understand their personal health information. Under an initiative named Claude for Healthcare, U.S. subscribers of Claude Pro and Max plans can securely connect their medical records and lab results to Claude through HealthEx and Function, with Apple Health and Android Health Connect integrations set to roll out later this week via iOS and Android apps. The company said these features are designed to help users make sense of their health data and improve interactions with healthcare providers.
Once connected, Claude can summarize medical histories, translate test results into plain language, detect patterns across fitness and health metrics, and even prepare questions for medical appointments. Anthropic emphasized that the tool is intended to support users in staying informed and facilitating productive conversations with healthcare professionals. The company highlighted that all integrations are private by design, allowing users to control what data they share, modify permissions, or disconnect Claude entirely at any time. Health information is not used to train Anthropic’s AI models, ensuring privacy while maintaining the platform’s analytical capabilities.
The rollout follows OpenAI’s recent launch of ChatGPT Health, which allows users to connect medical records and wellness apps for personalized insights and recommendations. Both companies face increasing scrutiny around AI providing inaccurate or potentially harmful health guidance. Google recently removed certain AI-generated health summaries after detecting misleading information. Anthropic and OpenAI have stressed that AI outputs are not substitutes for professional medical advice, and users must rely on qualified healthcare professionals for decisions related to diagnosis, therapy, patient care, or other high-risk health matters.
In line with this, Anthropic’s Acceptable Use Policy specifies that outputs from Claude should be reviewed by a qualified professional in relevant medical fields before they are used or shared in critical healthcare decisions. Claude is designed to include contextual disclaimers, acknowledge uncertainty, and direct users to seek guidance from healthcare professionals for personalized recommendations. By combining secure integrations with transparent guidance and privacy controls, Claude for Healthcare aims to offer patients actionable insights while reinforcing the importance of professional oversight in health management.
