PKCERT has formalized a partnership with global cybersecurity company Kaspersky by signing a memorandum of understanding aimed at enhancing Pakistan’s cybersecurity ecosystem. The collaboration is designed to bolster the country’s resilience against cyberattacks, protect digital assets, and strengthen the capacity of government, industry, and civil society to address evolving cyber threats. PKCERT, a federal authority responsible for safeguarding Pakistan’s digital infrastructure, will work with Kaspersky to implement a series of coordinated initiatives covering threat detection, mitigation, and prevention.
The MoU emphasizes operational readiness and cybersecurity awareness through extensive training programs targeted at multiple sectors including government agencies, private enterprises, academic institutions, and civil society organizations. By building a skilled workforce aligned with both national and international standards, the initiative seeks to address emerging cyber risks such as ransomware, hacktivism, identity theft, data breaches, and attacks on critical infrastructure. In addition, both organizations will facilitate the timely sharing of actionable cyber threat intelligence to ensure relevant stakeholders are equipped to respond to incidents promptly.
Under the agreement, PKCERT and Kaspersky will collaborate across legislative, regulatory, and technical domains. Areas of cooperation include incident detection and response, prevention strategies, cybersecurity education, research and development, and professional exchanges. The partnership will also involve the exchange of technical information, data feeds, and threat intelligence concerning cyber incidents affecting citizens, businesses, and government systems in Pakistan. This structured collaboration aims to reinforce Pakistan’s national cybersecurity posture while promoting safe and secure digital development.
The MoU was signed by Dr Haider Abbas, director general of PKCERT, and Rashed Al Momani, general manager for Middle East and Pakistan at Kaspersky, in the presence of Kaspersky CEO Eugene Kaspersky and IT Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja. Dr Abbas highlighted the importance of safeguarding digital infrastructure against modern cyber challenges, noting that the collaboration with Kaspersky represents a key step in strengthening national cybersecurity. Al Momani emphasized the value of public-private partnerships in consolidating Pakistan’s secure digital transformation, referencing Kaspersky’s global experience with organizations including Interpol and regional computer emergency response teams. The initiative signals a continued focus on proactive cybersecurity measures to support Pakistan’s growing ICT landscape and digital economy.
